Strictly by definition, nature identical oils have been produced synthetically not usually starting from a natural starting material. The end result is an oil that is identical to that naturally occurring in nature. Nature identical synthetic products are commonly used in perfume making as they offer a cost effective alternative to the expensive essential oils and absolutes of jasmine or rose oils.
Today, nature identical oils are found in products such as candles, soaps and cosmetics. The advantages of a long shelf life, stable formulation and intense yet not overpowering aromas, and cost have created ever increasing demand in a market once dominated by essential oils.
