  • Botanical Name: Malus sylvestis

    Medium-sized, deciduous tree. Grows to 10 meters. Leaves are coarse, oval, and simple. Flowers are five-petaled and radially symetrical, pink to white in color.

    The fruit and bark of this plant is generally considered to be astringent and laxative. Fresh fruit improves digestion. Used fresh, fruit is also an excellent dentifrice. Crushed fruit pulp is used in treatment of inflammations and light wounds. Bark is anthelmintic, refrigerant and sporofic.

    Cooked fruit is used in treatment of sore throat and eye inflammation. Stewed fruit is used in case of constipation. Used as a decoction, bark is useful in treatment of intermittent and bilious fevers. Leaves have anti-bacerial properties, inhibiting the growth of various gram-positive and gram negative bacteria.
