Made from only Grade A fruit, with natural colour and bold fruit tastes, cherries are an antioxidant powerhouse. In fact, they contain similar amounts of disease – fighting antioxidants as blueberries. On going studies suggest cherries may have unique health benefits, helping to reduce inflammation and the pain of arthritis and gout.
The following nutrients are associated with the cherry: Melatonin is the potent antioxidant that may help improve the body’s natural sleep patterns. Anthocyanins are the plant pigments responsible for the red colour of cherries that have been linked to a variety of health benefits, including protection against heart disease and some cancers.
Cherries contain at least 17 antioxidants, including the powerful antioxidants egallic acid, p-colemaric acid, kaempferol and quercetin.
Cherries are a good source of vitamin A (beta carotene) and also contain fiber.
