It is used for its anti-microbial properties and used traditionally as one of the ingredients in herbal vanishing creams to protect the skin from sun's UV rays.
The rootstock is carminative, emmenagogue, expectorant, stimulant, stomachic and tonic. It is useful in the treatment of liver complaints, and is also used in treating fevers, vomiting, diarrhea, inflammation, pains and snake bite.
